So you’re in a massive lecture class, and just like everybody else with a laptop, you’re on Facebook. Bored to bits, you go to Northwestern’s very own meme page- but alas, instead of the usual plethora of shitty jokes about tuition being “too damn high” or naïve freshmen, you fall on a bunch of ‘trolls’ who have covered the page with cartoon pictures of Spiderman.

Over the past week, this group of trolls has been banned from the Meme page over a dozen times, and has flooded it with hundreds of ‘Spidey’ memes for no apparent reason. They operate under different aliases like “NU Spidey,” “Spidey Wildcat,” and “Spidey Morty,” and have even created their own fraternity called – what else – Delta Spiderman Delta, or “SpiDelt.”

The group is growing and now has 132 members, and they have even pledged to paint the Rock sometime tomorrow (the 18^th), though whether this will actually happen is unlikely considering the group’s open signup sheet was recently covered with the word “penis.”

In an exclusive interview, The Chronicle was able to contact one of the original members of this nefarious group of trolls who are so dedicated to making a mostly mediocre meme page even more mediocre. He calls himself “NU Spidey,” and is SpiDelt’s founding father. His name will remain anonymous for obvious security reasons; all we can report is that he is a sophomore of solid Midwestern stock who lives in CRC.



So did you specifically start SpiDelt?

I fucking am SpiDelt.

Why do you waste so much time on this project?

Why do these assholes waste all their time making shitty memes on their shitty meme page?! I became fully opposed to this Northwestern Meme page after it clogged my newsfeed with memes that weren’t even done right. So I felt I had to fight back with Spiderman, which is a popular meme on 4chan.

Are you going to be painting the Rock tomorrow?

Well, if Delta Spiderman Delta actually dedicates itself to guarding the Rock, I will join in the fun.

What do you think of all the pony memes that are being posted?

I respect that the ponies are putting their effort into this, since they’re also trolling the NU meme page, but I cannot elucidate just how much I hate My Little Pony Friendship is Magic.

Why Spiderman?

For the absurdity, really. I want Delta Spiderman Delta to become a Northwestern 4chan, filled with trolling and stupidity.

Where do you find the time for all this?

Mostly at night, when the mods are sleeping.

UPATE: As of 2/20/12, Spidey fans have not painted The Rock. Big goddamn surprise.
